HAUNTINGS

The public assumes that haunting always involve apparitions, or the ghost of the dead, but actually, apparitions are connected to a minority of the cases. Most haunting involve noises like phantom footsteps, strange unexplained sounds, tapping, knocking and even voices and whispers. They can also include strange smells, sensations like the prickling of skin, cold spots, breezes and being touched by an unseen force. Other haunting can involve poltergeist activity such as furniture and solid objects being moved about, broken glass, doors that open and close by themselves and the paranormal manipulation of lights and electrical devices, circuits and outlets.
Visitors to haunted places often report a variety of emotions, including anger and fear when negative forces are at work. Many cases like this are mistakenly labeled as "evil" or "demonic". Other sites seem to involve friendly, or at least benign, emotions.

The Traditional, or intelligent, haunting is perhaps the most widely accepted kind of ghost activity, although it’s really not as common as your might think. In this kind of case, the spirit or entity involved is an "intelligent" presence in a haunted location. It is there because of a connection to the site or to the people at the location.
This ghost is best, and most simply, described as the personality of an individual who once lived and which has stayed behind in our world instead of passing on at the time of death. The may happen in the case of murder, a traumatic event, a suicide or even because of some unfinished business in the person’s life. At the time of death, the spirit refused to pass on because of these events. They may also linger because of emotions that tie them to earth, from anger to love. It may not have been that the person did not pass on because they couldn’t, but because they didn’t want to. In other cases, there is the chance that the spirit didn’t even realize that he had died. This may occur when a death is sudden or unexpected, like with an accident or murder.
These spirits are now made up of the energy that once made up the character of a living person. Now that the human body is gone, that energy is all that remains. These interactive spirits are not evil or demonic, as some so-called experts would have you believe. I have never encountered an evil spirit. However, I have run across a few spirits that I would call "negative" and it is possible they were the personalities of people who were bitter or angry in life. This often explains the types of activity being exhibited at the haunted location. The spirits are simply human personalities and seem to retain the same traits they had when alive. If a person was kind and caring in life, the spirit will be a benevolent one. On the other hand, if that person was angry or cruel, those qualities are likely to manifest.
The negative spirits can be frightening, especially to people not trained in the paranormal, and in rare cases can actually harm the living. This is generally not the case thought and most injuries related to haunted houses occur because of physical objects that are moved or when someone injures himself in an accident because of their fear of the phenomena. Intelligent, yet negative, spirits can be linked to cases involving poltergeist phenomena as well.
